OLD TOWN

The Old Town is one of the stunning sites to visit in Mombasa offering historical and cultural attractions to tourists that visit the place. FORT JESUS

Fort Jesus is a fort located in the old town of Mombasa and it was built in the early 15th century under the order of King Felipe II of Castille. It was designed to portray a human physique that was used as a defensive block to protect the Portuguese on the Eastern Coast of Kenya. It was made out of ceramic materials, artifacts, and clay to exhibit the different origins of people that were involved in the trade along the coast of Mombasa. Fort Jesus was awarded a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2011 to conserve its beauty. A visit to Fort Jesus is a fantastic introduction and exposure to the history of Mombasa including the war between the Christians and the Arabs.

Other attractions at Fort Jesus include the butterfly house for displaying the tropical butterflies in the green environment the Swahili culture center for training and providing the youth with skills and the water cistern where the Portuguese used to fetch water from.

MOMBASA MARINE NATIONAL PARK AND RESERVE

Mombasa is a fully blessed site harboring the national park stretching 10 square kilometers and the reserve lies on 200 square kilometers with a variety of wildlife covered in coral reefs.

Mombasa marine national park is made of sandy beaches, palm trees, and the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean, some of the marine creatures sighted include crabs, fish eel’s seagrasses, starfish, crabs, turtles, stonefish, octopus, jellyfish, sea cucumber, angelfish, sharks, dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, green sea turtle, leatherback turtle, hawksbill, humpback dolphin, damselfish, zebra fish, spinner dolphin and many more.

Attractions around the park include marine life viewing, fishing, boat rides, bird watching, diving, skiing, snorkeling, windsurfing, sunbathing, and beaches like Shanzu Beach, Nyali Beach, and Bamburi beach.

HALLER PARK

Haller Park formerly known as Bamburi Nature Trail offers lots of beautiful scenery for clients to explore and the best spot for animal lovers.

Dr. Rene Haller started up Haller Park in 1971; they transformed the quarrying limestone into a stunning park. This Haller park harbors plenty of wildlife species including hippos, zebras, waterbucks, buffaloes, elands, and plenty of bird species of over 160 species like storks, pelicans crocodiles, and many more.

Activities that can be done at the park include: Wildlife viewing in the reptile center, butterfly house, crocodile farm, fishing pond, etc and also Giraffe feeding is a perfect opportunity to relate with giraffes, bird watching, and night natural walks among others.

NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN COASTEL BEACHES

The coast of Mombasa is popularly known for the many beaches streamlined along the coastal shores with luxury resorts, hotels, and villas among others. The north side is more active than the southern side with more clear waters and many entertaining provisions like the water sports centers.

MAMBA VILLAGE CENTER

Mamba settlement is a necessary visit on a cultural tour; located 12km south of Nairobi.

Mamba farm is more of an educational and research site on its inhabitants’ daily lives including the crocodiles, and ostriches. Mamba village center is known as the largest crocodile farm in East Africa.

Afternoon could be the best time to visit when the animals are feeding with a chance of viewing the crocodiles fighting over morsels plus a great chance for the kids to play with the baby crocs.

BOMBOLULU WORKSHOP AND CULTURAL CENTER

You can have a stopover at the Bombolulu Workshop and Cultural Center that was started to fund the less advantaged Kenyans.
