Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive at Entebbe International airport and transfer for an overnight at Guinea Fowl Guest House.

Meet your driver and transfer to Guinea Fowl Guest House, a warm and pleasant accommodation with many room types namely: deluxe, family, apartment, camping mainly to suit the comfort and budget of its guests. Each room is ensuite with a bathroom having a 24hrs running system with hot and cold water. Alongside the cozy rooms, enjoy the additional services of the laundry, free internet access, secure parking, secure parking and therapeutic massage and treatments as well as pedicure and manicure.

Day 2
Meet your safari guide and transfer to Mount Elgon National park. Overnight at Mount Elgon Hotel

Meet your safari guide and transfer to Mount Elgon National Park. Mount Elgon found at the eastern border of Uganda and western Kenya is a massive extinct volcano that erupted 20 million years ago occupying 3000metres above the surrounding plains dominating the vast landscape. It was once the one of the tallest mountain in the world but due to the heavy rains and erosion its height has reduced to rank it as the fourth highest mountain in East Africa. Mount Elgon was gazetted as a park in 1968.

Possible sightings around Mount Elgon National park: Magnificent water falls, everlasting flowers, enormous caves, scenic series of rugged peaks/summits, gorges, pockets of crater lakes/pools, hot springs which bubble up to about 60 degrees centigrade, Fauna including big ones like buffalos/elephants, Flora including unique plants e.g. Elgon teak, elgon olive, elgonensis lobelia among others which do not appear anywhere in the world, birds of about 300 species including the rare Lammergeyer, the rare Jackson’s Francolin etc.  

Overnight at Mount Elgon Hotel.

Mount Elgon Hotel found after 2 km from the urban center along Masaba road, a well-facilitated Hotel with a large expanse ground incorporated with a swimming pool and terrace. The Hotel has a fully stocked bar and restaurant for your refreshment, enjoy the news and sports updates with the television set in place.

The hotel has three room types namely the executive, superior and standard and the rooms are ensuite with bathtubs, satellite television set, free drinking water, mini fridge and kettle, free internet access, free access of the Jacuzzi, steam and sauna, free laundry service and a wakeup call.

Day 3
Visit the Sipi falls in the morning. Afternoon cultural visit.

Embark on a sipi falls visit in the morning after your breakfast. Sipi falls can be found 3 km deep in the sipi valley and it is the most famous of all the Mount Elgon’s numerous waterfalls. It can be done as a 1 day activity although an overnight trip gives clients a sun set and sun rise view over the falls. Around the falls, you can also participate in abseiling – falling from the 100m ridge to the water pool below, around the falls, there are several unique rocks that are used as a site for rock climbing

Return to the lodge for lunch before the afternoon cultural visit.

The afternoon cultural visit is done around Mount Elgon which is a home to three main ethnic groups including the Benet / Ndorobo who are cattle keepers and the first indigenous habitants of the forested slopes of Mount Elgon, then bagisu who are cultivators occupying the western and southern slopes of the mountain famous for the circumcision ceremony every year.

Optional places to visit include meeting the sipi widows group, visiting traditional homes, local orphanage or school, banana brewing demonstration, visiting coffee plantations and illustrations of how coffee is planted and harvested and meeting traditional medicinal healers. This three to four hour walk is easily tailored to your individual schedule and interests.

Overnight at Mount Elgon Hotel.

Day 4
Hike Mount Elgon through one of the trails inclusive of Cave visits.

Hike Mount Elgon through Sipi trail – it is the most commonly used trail starting from the forest exploration center to Kapkwai near Sipi falls overnighting Tutum cave camp. From Tutum cave to Kajeri camp, which is a 6 -7 hours walk, then from Kajeri Camp via the caldera to Mude Cave camp, which is a 6 – 8 hours walk, and then join the sasa trail.

Depart the lodge with packed lunch. Descend the mountain to return to the lodge with a stop cover at the so many caves on the slopes of Mountain Elgon from the cooled lava forming different shapes. The caves act as overnighting and resting places for hikers especially those who do the Sasa Trail.

Return to the lodge for a relaxation and dinner plus an overnight.

Day 5
Drive back to Entebbe from Mountain Elgon National Park.

Drive back from Entebbe from Mbale. The drive is approximately 4 – 5 hours. You can overnight in Entebbe or connect directly to Entebbe International airport.
